Sixty one people attended the joint BevTech Europe 2009 and Packaging Technology Committee Meeting in Wiesbaden, making it one of the best attended meetings we've had. Twenty one new members joined the Society during these meetings. On Thursday, Gary Robson, Chairman of the International Issues Committee and member of the Board of Directors, discussed the ISBT and highlighted recent activities of the Society. He introduced papers on new beverage gas guidelines, recent advances in sweeteners and comparisons between Europe and North America on key regulations.
On Friday, the Packaging Technology Committee Chairman opened the discussions about recent work being done by the Committee. Patrick Vandevelde General Secretary of CETIE attended and gave an overview of the CETIE/EU standardization process for new light weight finishes. A number of papers were presented covering PCO 1881, Bag in Box packaging, current accepted methods in glass packaging and cans test methods.
Several ongoing projects concerning can test methods and glass test method coordination with CETIE resulted from the meeting.
