The International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT) launched its inaugural event, BevTech India on 18th February 2020, Mumbai in partnership with the Association of Food Scientists & Technologists, India (AFSTI), Mumbai Chapter, to set out on its mission of organizing technically focused, knowledge-sharing programs for beverage industry professionals in India. Event was attended by over 200 plus professionals, representing the beverage industry, suppliers, service providers, academia and government.
Through this event, ISBT opened up a network for Indian beverage professionals with global beverage industry professionals dedicated to addressing the scientific and technological needs of the beverage industry. BevTech India 2020 provided a unique, collaborative forum for networking with industry practitioners and experts.
This one-day event had as its core theme, the "Role of Innovation, Technology, and Sustainability in the Beverage Industry". All the sessions were productively focused on Industry hot-topics such as innovation, case studies with industry best practices and sustainability through the circular economy. In total 16 technical presentations covered all parts of the beverage supply chain covering ready to drink beverage categories.
The event was flagged off by Chief Guest Mr. R. P. Mishra, Dy. Director of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
Celebrating the inaugural BevTech India event, ISBT President Dr. Manus Mitchell described the gathering as a "big success". "BevTech India has highlighted the opportunities and challenges facing a burgeoning, and innovative market for beverages in India, and showcased the role that ISBT can play to support it". He also emphasized that "Internationally, ISBT is committed to providing the most sophisticated technical knowledge, skills and expertise to the members of its rapidly expanding family, and BevTech India 2020 is an initiative to advance the same purpose".
"As BevTech India 2020 is the first event of its kind, we expect the marketplace to respond positively and tap into this rich source of knowledge, expertise, and exposure to the most advanced technology solutions", said Dr. D.V. Darshane, Managing Director, BevTech India.
The event made a positive impact on a diverse cross-section of participants, who were enthusiastic about collaborating with ISBT, and tapping the valuable resources provided by ISBT. At the event many participants expressed that, they were thankful for being offered an opportunity to be a part of such a powerful event – one which directly benefits beverage industry professionals and they would be delighted to participate in the BevTech India 2021.
