FDIC Card Insurance Scam
The scam: People are receiving e-mails claiming to be from the FDIC offering Card Insurance that can restore customers up to $500 if they are a victim of internet fraud. When people click on the link, they are sent to a "spoofed" Web page requesting the user to enter personal information to receive the insurance.
The result: The personal information is used to steal the person's identity and gain access to the person's bank accounts.
Action step: If you receive this email, DO NOT access the link provided in the body of the e-mail and don't provide any personal information. Please report any similar attempts to the FDIC by emailing alert@fdic.gov.

Data Compromise and ID Theft Risk
Unfortunately, data compromises involving large volumes of consumer identifying information are happening at an increasing rate. You may have even received a letter notifying you that your personal identifying information was compromised in one of the larger, widely known incidents involving the Veteran’s Administration, TJX Companies (TJX) and most recently
Certegy Check Services, Inc.
who provides check authorization services to U.S. retail merchants and casinos. Don’t panic if you receive such a letter; instead, take steps to reduce your risk of identity theft. Get a good understanding of what happened and what information was compromised. Then place a fraud alert on your credit bureau file. If detailed account information was involved, you may want to close your account – we can help you with this decision. And continually watch your accounts and credit reports closely for unauthorized activity.

Certegy Data Compromise (Press Release – announced 7/3/07)
You may receive a letter in the mail from Certegy containing the last 4-digits of your checking account or debit/credit card number with us or another financial institution. You may not know who Certegy is, how or why they would have your information.
Although the letter may identify an ISB&T account, ISB&T did not provide the information to Certegy as we do not use their check authorization services. The information was provided by a merchant or casino using these services to validate a personal check or debit/credit card that was presented to them.
Please read the Q&A prepared by Fidelity National Information Services, parent company for Certegy. You can also visit their site for more information: www.certegy.com. You may also call a special line that has been established at Certegy regarding the situation at 1-866-498-9916.
It is important that you look closely at your account statements regularly for unauthorized activity. You should also monitor your credit report by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com or calling 877-322-8228 for a free copy.
